I'm going after work today to look this over. I might make him an offer if the body structure is sound (torque boxes, rails, floor pan, trunk). I can't get into another restore like I'm doing to the 69. To much time and money and I'm short on both. Attachments:

Looks to be all there, the belt is off the pulley on the waterpump, does he say how it runs? Hopefully it isnt a sign that the engine is siezed from sitting. That would make a good summertime cruiser or a good car to buy, detail and flip if the price is right.

It looks to be in great shape, in the pictures. The top and interior look new. If there is no rust and the price is reasonable, that Stang may have a new home.

So about to blow your mind. The car is complete with the correct motor and trans. The owner ordered the stang in 1964, that's right it has an A-code title. Its badge as an early 65 with a D-code 289 4V engine fitted with an old school 260 motor generator (look close at the eng pic). He also picked the 4sp borg-warner trans option offered for 1965. Another option he got was a rally pac and the upgraded wheels. It does need the drivers side torque box replaced but the rest of the body is solid. I spent about 1 1/2 hrs just looking it over and decoding the vin. Now for the best part of this car, I wrote him a check on the spot for $3500. DID YOUR JAW JUST DROP TO THE FLOOR? When I offered him 3500 and he said yes, I almost pissed myself before I fell over. I always read the articles about some lucky SOB who found that rare fine, I just never expected it to happen to me. More to come

Congrats, you lucky summabitch, lol. That is a rare find indeed and at a 'hit the lottery' price to boot. Enjoy Ken and best of luck with it.

Great job Ken! You should send that story into Mustang Monthly...they always run stories like that. Maybe you will have it ready for the Warminster PBA show in August? That would be awesome!

It was a great fine. I think the owner was more excited than me at one point. I guess knowing that your long time baby is going to some who can really appreciate and take care of her gives the sense of doing the right thing with no regrets(Chris can relate to this). I have to say that the Steve and his wife are very nice people and it was a true pleasure to hear his stories about his stang.

Finding a one owner car like that is just nuts. You've really got something to work with, that doesn't need a lot of work. This is what every vintage car restore enthusiast dreams about. I'm looking forward to seeing it.

Yesterday I loaded her on the trailer and took her to her new home. At the auto tag place, I asked if they could request that Penn DOT return the old title to me. I'm trying to get and keep as many documents as I can to build the car history. You just don't see the old style Pa titles anymore. Something very interesting about this title, no where on the title does it have "1965" typed. The only verification of the year is in the vin. I have a copy of the title but having the real thing would be really cool.

I would have to leave that on the window. It will help validate the car's history.

Vince, we are on the same page with that. The owner is going to look for the original build sheet and other paper work he got back in 64.
Looks like the weekend of the 13th I'll be pulling engine & trans out. More to come

The engine and trans in bad shape? or just pulling them for a refresh Ken?

Sal, eng & trans are in good shape according to the owner but its been a year since the motor was fired up. At the very least, I'm gonna have the heads done, carb rebuilt, new water pump, ignition, filters, fluids, and radiator checked. I already asked my friend Eric Swarr to go over the trans and he is also gonna do 373 gears for me.
Also dropping the pan so there are no surprises

I did some research on Ford production numbers and I didn't like what I found. The last 6 numbers of my vin represent the consecutive production unit. My unit is; 112908. For 1965 production year, the unit total was 607,569. Here is the kicker, every production year starts out 000,000. What I did not know is that Ford counted other body units running on the same assembly line with the mustang units. So is my vert really the 112908 mustang built? I have to wonder how many non mustang body units came before it. Another note, because Ford had a high demand in 65, they produced the mustang from all three assembly plants. This verts birth place was Dearborn.

I think it was the 112,908 car built at that plant. The Mustang number is probably a lot lower.

I agree. Every plant had their own block of numbers per production year. A friend told me buy a Marti report.

So the story behind this car gets better. Yesterday I paid a vist to Glaziers Mustang Barn. I need some question anwsered about convertible structure repairs. It ended up as an eye opening education (I got schooled). I explained what I had along with the pictures I took. The owner explained to me that this is not a real 1965 but it's a true 64 1/2. Three things that gave it away, The only V8 offered between Mar 64 and and Jul 64 was a "D" code 289 and was dropped after Jul 31 which started the actual 1965 production run. Only 64's came with two big horns that were mounted on the frame behind the radiator. All 64's featured a generator charging system along with a generator charging light. The manufacture build date code is 15D which translates to 15 Apr 1964. Glaziers told me that I hit the mustang lottery and its a true barn find and in the same breath, "do you want to sell it"

That is some great info about the car. Now you need a Marti Report to collaborate all that information and document the cars history. You certainly are in rare find territory.
