I am cosidering lowering my Mach 1 about 1.5in...Does anyone have recent knowledge as far as how involved and practical this is...if so I was wondering if I need to change my shocks or are just the springs and camber plates enough

Lowering your car will degrade the dampening effect of the shock, since the shocks designed travel has been altered. To what degree depends on the make of the shock. There is also talk that it might lower the life of the shock. My car is lowered about an inch. I did need CC plates in order to get it to line up properly. I didn't detect any increase in ride harshness but that doesn't mean the shock is actually performing as designed. I would proceed as planned and see how it feels. I saved some money for shocks, just in case.

Thx for the info...How long since you lowered it and have been running on the stock shocks?

Thx for the info...How long since you lowered it and have been running on the stock shocks? It's been about 4 years and a few thousand miles since I lowered it. That's not a significant amount of miles to accumulate any noticeable amount of degradation. The stock shocks are still on the car.

When I lowered mine I went with Steeda shocks. For similar reasons to what Vince is describing about shock wear, and I just figured I don't want to have to do the job twice. I have nothing to compare it against, but even lowered my car still rides pretty nice. I've been told that with stock shocks, and lowered springs that my car would have been more bouncy.

Bill, check out Bilstein Sports. iirc that's what came stock on the 03/04 Cobras and are great shocks. i went with Tockico Illuma fully adjustable to dial in the ride, right now i keep them on the firmest setting on the street to keep from bottoming out (but then again my car would be considered slammed as opposed to the drop you're looking at). you might want to look into getting your fender lips rolled (tucked) to minimize any chance the fender lips will gouge your tires.

Thx Bri..Im only looking at 1.5 in max, I was hoping to get off cheap and not change struts and shocks but also dont want any issues either. Only have funds for springs now will have to put off the drop till my car fund gets higher

I think the factory Mach Tokico's should be able to withstand a 1.5" drop for a while until you get new shocks/struts. If this helps, they are 1/2" shorter than GT ones from what I've read. How many miles are on your car now?

The car has 33k....and its only used on the weekends, not a daily driver...I know the Mach's are lower than a stock GT, not sure by how much

^ check out Hank & Sons on Bridgetown Pike and Bristol Rd. (right across form the Kopper Kettle) they ALWAYS are working on muscle cars, hot rods, etc... they welded in my subframe connectors and did a great job. prices are very reasonable. they have ben taking care of my Cobra for the last few times it's needed inspection and a few other odds and ends.

Where is the noise coming from? Did you put Isolators on the springs? Changing the geometry of the suspension, along with worn bushing, could be another source of noise.

Bill, let me know and I can come take a look if you like and maybe we can figure it out. Did you put caster/camber plates on also? Where is the clunking coming from?

sounds like you may be having a problem with one of those CC pates, or something is loose.

FYI....had the SR CC plates removed after trying everything and switched to BBK's...much better. anyone looking for Quiet CC plates, make sure they have some sort of bushing material for street driving...SR's were metal to metal ball socket, prob good for racing but too noisy for my taste

Do you have pics of what you're talking about? Are you talking about where the Strut nuts on to the bearing ?
